The Ballad of Wallis Island

★★★★ "The word of mouth summer sleeper hit [of 2025] with a big, big heart”: The Times

"A bittersweet, cardigan-clad small treasure of a film and a balm for battered souls." - The Observer

Warm, funny and quietly moving, The Ballad of Wallis Island is a charming British comedy-drama about music, memory and second chances. Faded folk musician Herb McGwyer (Basden) travels to a remote island for what appears to be a lucrative private performance, only to discover that his audience consists of one eccentric superfan (Key) and his former musical and romantic partner, Nell Mortimer (Mulligan). As old tensions resurface and long-buried feelings emerge, an unexpected reunion offers each of them the chance to reflect on love, loss and the paths not taken. Filled with gentle humour and wonderful music, this is an uplifting and deeply affecting story.
